Welcome to the SCCAL

The Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League (SCCAL), was originally known as the Santa Cruz County Athletic League, but was renamed in 1980. It started operations in the fall of 1976. The original six member schools were drafted out of the two existing south bay leagues, the Monterey Bay League (MBL) and the Mission Trail Athletic League (MTAL). The six original SCCAL members were:

• Aptos High School
• Harbor High School
• Marello Prepatory High School
• San Lorenzo Valley High School
• Santa Cruz High School
• Soquel High School

Over the years, through realignments and/or supplemental leagues, many other local schools have been SCCAL members at different times, including Watsonville High School, St. Francis Salesian College Prep, Pacific Collegiate School, North Monterey County High School, Monte Vista Christian School, and more.

Marello Prep closed its doors in the spring of 1988, and Mt. Madonna and Scotts Valley became permanent SCCAL members in 1992 and 1999, respectively.

Today’s permanent SCCAL members are:

• San Lorenzo Valley High School
• Santa Cruz High School
• Scotts Valley High School
• Soquel High School

The SCCAL has been Santa Cruz County’s high school league governing body for the last 5 decades. The SCCAL oversees the athletic contests with the mission of providing rigorous athletic experiences, fair play through competition, upstanding citizenship, and life-long enrichment and memories.

In these past 5 decades, the SCCAL has seen thousands of its alums go on to very successful athletic careers at hundreds of colleges and universities throughout the country, and many have also gone on to success at the professional and Olympic level. The SCCAL is proud of all of them, and of every student-athlete who has ever competed on SCCAL fields, gyms, pools, tracks, and more.
